Poetry for All with Christine Sanders on 27th January

This one day (10.00-4.00) poetry course does exactly what it says on the tin – it’s for everyone, whether you are a published poet or just beginning to put pen to paper, this poetry day is for you! This is a time where you can release your imagination and let your writing run free, all in a welcoming and informal atmosphere.

During this Poetry For All day, you will share the space with up to 16 other writers. You will enjoy readings, writing exercises, as well as walking, exploring (and if wish, writing) around Narberth Castle.

The stimulus of the day will be Prince Pwyll of The Mabinogion, with particular focus on our beautiful and very important, Narberth Castle. We will discuss Prince Pwyll’s role and the type of character he was before focusing more specifically on the castle, and discover how vital it was within The Mabinogion story.

The focus of the actual poetry will be looking at how to make writing so exciting it leaps off the page and pulses with life. We will look at imagination and use of key language so that your writing takes on a life force of its own – alive and vibrant.

The structure of the day will be to meet at 10.00 and discuss Prince Pwyll and the role of Narberth Castle. We will engage in some fun and stimulating writing activities including looking at work by different poets. There will be a short break during the morning for coffee.

We will break for lunch at around 1 p.m. (please bring your lunch). After lunch, you may, if you wish, visit the castle. Whilst at the castle, you may engage in writing (depending on weather) with the aim to write a poem or two. Once back at the museum, you may
edit your work, workshop your work in pairs, and finally, share your poem with the group if you wish to. The emphasis is on fun – there is absolutely no judgement.

The course is facilitated by Christine Sanders who has returned to Narberth after spending the last four years taking her MA at Manchester Writing School under the tutorage of Carol Ann Duffy. Christine loves creating inspirational workshops as much as she loves writing. Her MA encompassed ‘Enabling New Writers’ and she has already held a 6 week course at Shibden Hall, Halifax as well as being booked to hold poetry courses in Pescara, Italy next year.
You’ll be given a warm welcome, support and encouragement throughout the entire day.

Booking is ESSENTIAL. £15 / £12 concessions.
